On Tuesday 8AB went to Oxford to explore the Ashmolean Museum and some of the Colleges and churches. The Ashmolean Museum was established in 1683 by Elias Ashmole, an antiquary with many varied interests including alchemy. Thanks to some of his friends, a whole collection of artefacts of the ancient world were brought in, and we had a great time looking at these incredible relics and engaging with the amazing interactive resources there. After that, we were each given some money and we bought our own food in the Covered Market. Then we climbed up a lot of stone steps to the top of The University Church of St Mary’s. There was an excellent view of some of the Colleges and the Bodleian Library, and Mr Neal gave us a great tour of New College. As it was founded by William of Wykeham in 1379, it was almost identical to Winchester College in appearance, which was also founded by him in 1382. Overall, the trip was an amazing and very interesting experience, and all of 8AB thank Mrs Neal and Mrs Faulkner for all their effort in organizing it. –Β Thomas, 8AB
