It has been another memorable Book Week as our annual celebration of the power of reading burst into life. We were delighted to welcome Carrie Sellon, author of Pizza Pete and the Perilous Potions, who kick-started the festivities with a fascinating assembly and some excellent writing workshops.

Book Nooks were back and played host to some entertaining storytelling from the teachers. It was marvellous to see hordes of cheerful children bustling down the corridors in search of a terrific tale…and perhaps a biscuit or two! On World Book Day itself pupils were treated to a rather ‘unique’ play performed by a courageous cast of teachers, who acted out a staff meeting of David Walliams’ World’s Worst Teachers. It is no surprise that Dr Dread’s unscheduled wind prompted the most laughs, along with Miss Spick’s terrifying entrance on a modified mobility scooter, but there were many magical moments and the children thoroughly enjoyed seeing these characters come to life on stage.

A school day wouldn’t be complete without serious sustenance, and the catering team produced a delicious book-themed menu, with Mr Bunce’s donuts being a particular hit (fortunately Mr Dann deviated from the story slightly and decided not to inject them with goose-liver paste!).

Two remarkable Reading Competition finals were the icing on a busy cake, concluding what has been a super celebration of books!
