On Monday Year 7 travelled to Stratford for a Geography trip to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The aim of the day was to find out about sustainable development and whether the London 2012 Olympic Games had left a green legacy. The groups learned about the development of the Aquatics Centre, the Olympic Stadium and the Velodrome, discussing the materials and the energy which were used to make them. The Year 7s were especially interested to learn about the ‘green wall’ which increases biodiversity and also reduces pollution. They then undertook some surveys of people in the area to learn more about how people use transport locally. They also asked some residents of the East Village some questionnaires to understand how it remains a sustainable area in terms of its transport, recycling and use of open space. Overall, it was a really interesting day and we were all grateful that the rain held off until we were back on the bus!
